Creating community-level opportunities to encourage people to be vessels of change.
Mic Check 1-Two! was created to encourage average, everyday citizens to become change agents regarding pertinent and pressing societal issues. We want to emphasize the importance of verbal communication and community action in a time ruled by technology and impersonal interactions. We want to bring REAL conversations to life. We do this by holding panel discussions about relevant issues and we address needs in the community by organizing events like our Prom Dress Drive and supporting other charitable events. We hope that by creating opportunities for dialogue and participation, we will encourage people to create positive change within our communities.
Mic Check 1-Two! was founded by Lana Adams and Latiaynna Tabb in December of 2011. Read more about Lana and Latiaynna below.

A person cannot be reduced to her individual experiences, but must be understood by the impact of their combination. Born to a large family in West Philadelphia, Latiaynna Tabb has always had the support and encouragement necessary to excel down whatever path she chose. Having experienced the death of her father and grandmother at an early age, their spirits continue to push her as she strives to make her name synonymous with excellence. She is a graduate of Millersville University with a BA (2008) in Sociology/Criminology and minors in Psychology & Women’s Studies and a graduate of the University of Delaware with an MS in Human Development and Family Studies.
Her resume thus far is impressive to say the least; from her academic pursuits to taking the time to serve her community, including recently co-founding a community-based organization Mic Check 1-Two!, and landing jobs that do the same. Committing herself to empowering the youth, especially young women (one could say it is the feminist in her), she has found herself as a program director at Paradise Farms Camp, a nutrition educator at The Food Trust, and is currently an academic advisor and teaching assistant at The University of Delaware. She also owns an entertainment management company, Tabb Management (Tabb MGT). Her ambitions are dedicated “to girls who grew up from bright colors to earth tones…” Her strength derives from that of her familial support system and was built upon loss. The combination of the two, along with the indelible impression left by her grandmother, she continues to strive for excellence.

Host, Producer, “Misled”
Keona Gabbadon is a Philadelphia native and recent graduate of Temple University (12) with a Bachelor’s degree in Communication. She is a bright, fiery, spirit, who takes pride in “keeping it real”.
Keona began working with Mic Check 1-Two! after sharing a common disgust with Lana Adams about the images of black people that are constantly portrayed in modern popular culture. Keona and Lana decided to take action in creating a web series entitled Misled. Misled is a show dedicated to getting to the root of many common stereotypes and misconceptions that plague the black community in an effort to change perspectives.
Keona often says that she “loves, love”. She plans to help spread this love to her community through her work with Mic Check 1-Two! and beyond.
